Here we are folks! That time of year when most areas amusement parks are opening or on the verge of opening. In fact, it's one of my favorite time of year. This year perhaps may be filled with one of the most exciting collection of new and or updated attractions in parks all over the world and its inspired me to finally get around to starting this blog. This has been along time coming and hopefully it's worth the wait.
Since this is the first posting, it's time for the origin story, in other words, a little about me. Ever since I was little, I always loved amusement parks. My earliest park experiences were when I would take my annual trip to California to visit my grandparents. They lived in the hills of Studio City which meant vacations could and usually did include trips to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Knott's Berry Farm. There was even a trip to Magic Mountain once sprinkled in back when the park contained a magical bunch of trolls and well before it became the coaster boy paradise it is today. These of course were the highlights of those trips as you can imagine and created a passion for the world of all sorts of themed entertainment that grew in to the full on obsession it is today. I still recall the time I saw a commercial for Space Mountain during a rerun of the Mickey Mouse Club and being blown away. Of course, it was a few years after until I got the courage to tackle Disney's (arguably) most famous mountain. In fact, on that trip I conquered all 3 of Disney's mountain range. Yes, I said 3 as Splash Mountain was still years away and I didn't want my fellow Disney fans and experts shouting out while reading this. I also remember the wonder of flying like Peter Pan, and being shrunk down on a journey to Inner Space. Disney while being a huge part, it was also the other parks that contributed. The Bear-y Tales at Knott's, and the Universal Tour were two of my favorite experiences. With those at the beginning of my foray into the world of Amusement and Theme parks, the proverbial bar was set high.
Now my obsession with coasters didn't come until I was thirteen when I tackled my first "real" coaster - Shockwave at Kings Dominion. That trip also gave me a bit of redemption when I would ride King Cobra making up for my chickening out of Knott's Montezuma's Revenge. That trip definitely broadened my love of parks. I would now not only love a park for the intricate theming, but I would now also seek out the biggest, tallest and fastest coasters I could find! While some of my favorites of my earlier coaster days are gone (I'll miss you Lightning Loops and Big Bad Wolf), the incredible coasters of today are forcing me to constantly update my rankings.
So with that little history out of the way, I can now focus more on the present, and the future. Hopefully you will all find something entertaining in this blog or least mildly interesting. If not, well at least it was free, right? Until the next time folks, Keep riding!
